It’s that time of the year again! No not Christmas but Celebrity Big Brother stumbled back onto our screens on Wednesday. Everyone from soap stars Julie Goodyear and Cheryl Fergison, to Page 3 model Rhian Sugden and Jasmine Lennard, Olympic athlete Ashley McKenzie, rapper MC Harvey and even a prince made the cut this year.
Now every year it seems like they have to have a model in the house just to give the guys some eye candy. Rhian Sugden is only famous for being a Page 3 model and also she apparently texted Vernon Kay inappropriate messages while he was married to Tess Daly. When she got into the house she denied that she ever sent him inappropriate messages. Another model that entered the house Janice Lennard is also a housemate. Heard of her? No neither have I. Her main reason for being considered a celebrity is that she dated the music mogul Simon Cowell.
The most famous faces that appeared on the show were Eastenders actress Cheryl Fergison, Corrie actress Julie Goodyear. Oh and Martin Kemp, what better excuse to dig out that Spandau best-of? To add to the celebrities who want to give their career a little bit of a boost is journalist Samantha Brick. If you haven’t heard of Samantha Brick she was the woman who wrote an article a few months ago piece in the Daily Mail, headlined: “There are downsides to looking this pretty. Why women hate me for being beautiful.”
Channel 5 has increasingly milked the format since it bought the rights to Big Brother and this is the third celebrity version to launch in the space of a year. Mike “the Situation” Sorrentino from US TV show Jersey Shore and former So Solid Crew rapper MC Harvey, formerly married to Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon have also entered the Big Brother house
It only runs for 23 days and no doubt when this series ends they will all be labelled as ‘stars’ when they come out. The producers of the show have a rather broad view on what makes someone a ‘celebrity’.
