E.l.f – a student make up heaven

As a rather poor student I can’t really afford really expensive make-up. The solution to this? E.l.f (eyes, lips and face) cosmetics. You can only get these online but they may be cheap but they are products that actually work. Also another good point about this company is that they are cruelty-free which is always nice to hear.

*Straight from the peeps at e.l.f:

“We do NOT test on animals or endorse such practices. Our products do not contain animal derived ingredients. Beeswax has been replaced by synthetic beeswax and lanolin has been replaced by Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladinpale-2. We currently support HSUS and are partners with PETA in the Caring Consumer Project. Please see our philosophy page for further explanation on our company.”

The company was originally launched in New York in 2004 by Scott-Vincent Borba with the intent on bringing products at affordable prices to their customers. Why are the prices so low I hear you say? They source the best ingredients at competitive prices and vy using the internet to market their products instead of using the higher-priced advertising media the folks at e.l.f are able to pass these savings onto their customers.

Here are just a few of my favourite e.l.f products:

  • Lip Stain in ‘Fashionista’
  • Brightening Eye Liner
  • Professional Shine Eraser
  • Mineral Foundation
  • Nail Polish in ‘Fuchsia’
  • Shimmering Facial Whip
  • Flawless Eyeshadow in ‘Beautiful browns’
  • Total Face Brush

So if you’re a student and you want inexpensive and good makeup go to the website and take a look!

Seems like beauty is skin deep these days

Nowadays girls want to look older than they are. To be honest I don’t see why. Courtney Stodden is a prime example. She hit the headlines when the then 16-year-old marries 51-year-old Doug Hutchinson who is an actor. Even though it technically illegal her mother gave her consent for the two to be married. Who would want their 16-year-old to be married to someone who is 35 years older than her? That’s just creepy. So many young teenage girls these days are pressured into looking older than they are. One of the things to blame is the teen celebs that look a lot older than they are because of the way they dress, Kylie and Kendall Jenner for example.

Red lips: slutty or sexy?

Red lipstick is like the stiletto heel of the make up. Every woman owns at least one tube of red lipstick in her make up bad. Red lipstick is like glamour in a tube. There’s just something about red lipstick that can make a woman feel sexy and classy at the same time. It has yet to go out of style. Celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera are known for their wearing of red lipstick. Women started wearing red lipstick more in the 1920’s with the flapper girls. In the 1930’s and 40’s red lipstick was more associated with the idea of adult sexuality and prostitution. It wasn’t until the 1950’s when the arrival of actresses Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor that red lipstick became sexy again. The one thing that is so appealing about red lipstick is that it so easy to wear and anyone can pull it off. The trick is to know what colours suit your hair and skin colour

Even 7 year olds can have reality shows now

The newest ‘star’ to land their own reality show is Eden Wood. She is famous for being on Toddlers and Tiaras which shows the lives of several of America’s child beauty pageant contestants. Eden has won over 300 pageants in her short life and retired from doing pageants last year at the ripe old age of six!  It seems she wants to follow in the footsteps of Kim Kardashian and star in her own reality tv show called ‘Eden’s World’. One thing I am wondering is where on earth do these parents get the money to pay for all the costumes, fees and travelling expenses for these events?

Kids should be kids

It seems that girls nowadays feel under pressure to grow up way too quickly. Magazines, celebrities, adult style clothing and music video are all to blame for this according to parents. It isn’t only just modern culture that puts these girls under pressure but many of them feel under pressure from their friends just so they can fit in. The society that we live in is relatively uncensored with access to highly sexualised books, movies and magazines. Any comments that are usually made towards women or girls are based on their appearance or how attractive they are perceived to be.

Thanks to TOWIE for giving Essex a BRILLIANT name

This show could not annoy me more if it tried. Due to this show which apparently shows what Essex is like. Erm are you kidding me? What that show actually portrays is the lives of individuals who would not be famous if it wasn’t for that show. It represents a tiny majority of people in Essex.  Essex is actually a lovely place and has some nice scenery. It is filmed in a select few places and they are often clubs and the houses of the characters.

The majority of the characters are constantly fake-tanned to the max. They think they look attractive. No. What they actually look like is an Oompa Lumpa or a Wotsit. The only one who doesn’t look like a Wotsit is Lydia and for that I am slightly proud of her. When I see all these girl with the fake tan and fake eyelashes and tiny dresses it just makes me think that these girls must be so insecure about their looks that they feel the need to stain their skin with what normally end up looking like creasote. In my opinion the fake look is not attractive and just makes people think you think beauty is only skin-deep. I think most of the girls on TOWIE would benefit from going on Snog, Marry Avoid because I can guarantee not many blokes would marry those girls…
